Getting Started

What is GiveNet?

GiveNet is a free resource redistribution platform that connects people and organizations with surplus resources to those in need. You can donate items, post requests, join campaigns, and get matched with the right people in your community.

Is GiveNet free to use?

Yes! GiveNet is completely free for individuals. We are funded by partner organizations and corporate sponsors who believe in our mission.

How do I create an account?

Click "Get Started" on the homepage, choose your account type (Individual, Organization, or Driver), fill in your details, and you're ready to go in under 2 minutes.

What account types are available?

Individual — for personal donors and recipients. Organization — for NGOs, schools, churches, hospitals and businesses. Driver — for volunteers who help transport donations.

Donations

How do I post a donation?

After signing in, go to "Donate" in the navigation, fill in the title, category, quantity, condition, and pickup location. Our system will immediately start matching it with relevant requests.

What items can I donate?

Almost anything useful — food, clothing, furniture, electronics, books, medical supplies, school materials, and more. Items must be legal, safe, and in usable condition.

Can I specify how my donation is used?

Yes. You can dedicate your donation to a specific campaign, set pickup restrictions, or add notes. When a match is proposed, you have the option to accept or decline.

How long will my donation stay active?

Donations stay active for 30 days by default. You can extend or cancel them from "My Donations" at any time.

Requests

How do I post a request?

Go to "Request" in the navigation and describe what you need — title, category, quantity, urgency level, and why you need it. Verified organizations can post larger bulk requests.

Who can post requests?

Any registered user can post requests. Organizations that have been verified by our admin team can post bulk requests on behalf of their beneficiaries.

How do I know if my request was fulfilled?

You'll receive a notification when a match is proposed. You can track progress from "My Requests" and through the messages feature.

Matching

How does the matching system work?

Our matching engine scores every donation against every open request based on category compatibility, location proximity, quantity match, urgency, and user trust scores. High-scoring matches are proposed automatically.

Can I manually propose a match?

Yes. Browse donations or requests and click "Propose Match" on any listing that looks like a good fit.

What happens after a match is accepted?

Both parties are notified. A logistics record is created and, if a verified driver is available, pickup and delivery can be coordinated through the platform.

Your Account

How do I get verified?

Submit your profile with accurate information. Admins review accounts within 1–3 business days. Organizations must provide registration details for verification.

How do I change my password?

Go to Profile → Change Password. You need your current password to set a new one. Alternatively, use the "Forgot password?" link on the sign-in page.

Can I delete my account?

Contact us at help@givenet.org and we'll process your request within 7 days. Active matches will be concluded first.

Safety Guidelines

How do I report suspicious activity?

Use the "Flag" button on any listing or user profile, or email safety@givenet.org. All reports are reviewed within 24 hours.

Tips for safe exchanges

Meet in public places when possible. For large items, bring a friend. Verify the recipient's profile before handing over high-value items. Use the platform messaging — never share personal contact details externally.

What items are prohibited?

Weapons, controlled substances, alcohol, tobacco, counterfeit goods, and any illegal items are strictly prohibited. Perishable food must be within safe consumption dates.

Logistics & Delivery

How is delivery handled?

Donors can arrange their own delivery or request a volunteer driver from our network. Logistics is tracked in real time from pickup to delivery.

How do I become a driver?

Register with the "Driver" account type. Once verified, you'll receive match notifications for deliveries near your location.
