2. Information We Collect
Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, city, and country when you register.
Profile Data: Optional bio, avatar photo, and organization details.
Usage Data: Donations posted, requests made, matches accepted, messages sent, and notifications received.
Location Data: City/region for matching purposes only. We do not collect GPS coordinates without your explicit consent.
Technical Data: IP address, browser type, and access timestamps for security and abuse prevention.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: provide and improve the GiveNet platform, match donations to requests, send relevant notifications, verify accounts and prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Sharing Your Information
Your name and general location (city) are visible to other platform users for matching purposes. Your email address is never publicly displayed. We may share data with: trusted service providers (hosting, email delivery) under strict confidentiality agreements, law enforcement when legally required, and partner organizations if you explicitly opt in.
5. Data Retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. Deleted accounts are anonymized within 30 days. Transaction records may be retained for up to 7 years for legal compliance.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion of your account, object to certain processing, and data portability. To exercise these rights, email privacy@givenet.org.
7. Cookies
We use session cookies to maintain your login state and a CSRF token cookie for security. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser, but some features of the platform will not function correctly.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, password hashing (bcrypt), CSRF protection, prepared SQL statements, and regular security audits. No system is completely secure; please use a strong unique password and keep it confidential.
9. Children's Privacy
GiveNet is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, contact us immediately.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify registered users of material changes via email or in-platform notification. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance.
